On Saturday morning, Tom Gilmore [Mareeba Shire Mayor] opened the North Queensland Aeroclub premises, following it’s transfer from Cairns to Mareeba late in 2015.
Over 200 people came to the Open Day, which was attended by AOPA Australia, Mareeba Model Aero Club, other industry people and a large array of people interested in aviation. It was a fantastic opportunity for people of all ages to walk among the static display of aircraft.
In particular, the attendance of many younger people demonstrates that there still is a generation wide interest in aviation.
This interest must be supported by all sectors of aviation to ensure the younger people represented on Saturday can have a full engagement without fear or favour.
