AVMED Problems – Bladeslapper

AVMED problems raised by Helicopter pilots:

Re: Helicopter Pilot training path

The information provided by HKK is still current. I had LASEK in 2009 with pre-surgery refraction of -5 left and -3 right and was subsequently confirmed as AVR1 by AVMED.

ASRR, Senate Review and a way forward

Just lots of problems with casa – AVMED, AOC’s, prosecutions etc. The ASRR [Aviation Safety Regulatory Review] http://vocasupport.com/election/regulatory-review-2013/asrr-submissions/ by David forsyth is getting to an end. Lots of good submissions …

Re: Australian Helicopter Industry Association

… application for some of our members. Our thanks to AOPA for working on this regulatory issue. Quote: As you are aware, AOPA has been encouraging AVMED to look at the issue of DAMEs issuing class 2 medical certificates. CASA did investigate this issue several years ago and it failed because DAMEs …

Re: Oral glucose test

Pretty much what everyone else has said. I am a larger frame so figured Avmed singled me out because of weight figures. Eat well a number of days before test in case your figure could be marginal. I laid off the booze a few days as well. Set aside 2-3 hrs for test.

Re: Oral glucose test

It’s a PITA. AvMed have changed the blood sugar level parameter from 6.0 to 5.5, citing ‘advice from the Diabetes Association’, but the DA only call for glucose tolerance testing for high risk patients between 5.5 and 6.0 on a three …

Re: Heli training – S Brisbane/Archerfield

… redefined to Class 1… I know the feeling. I spent a good 3 months visiting specialists and getting xrays before I was cleared for my medical by AvMed. You’re most definitely not the first to be put on Class 4, and likewise you wouldn’t be the first to successfully appeal – a lot of ADF pilot …

Re: CASA – Are they doing a good enough job ?

you would be surprised at how people will go the extra mile to solve an issue for an operator I can honestly say that whilst my initial AVMED experiences with CASA were hugely irritating and nonsensical e.g. Dr. Pooshan Navathe’s underlings demanding that I provide a note from my doctor to …

Re: Navy Pilots

… already in the system under ‘cadetships’ at ADFA/RMC are given waivers. Those who come close to the height in testing generally get checked out by AVMED. Did know an Army pilot who trained with Navy on Squirrel due height, then came across. Was a one off I think. Here’s hoping HATS produces some …

Re: Medical extensions

Thanks all for your replies. AvMed has all my docs and I’m paid up. All I’m told is that they’re with the doctor and it will be processed soon. The self-service portal lists my status as “Delayed” but my validity is until 2014. …

Re: In praise of CASA

You’re lucky Twisty, I’m on the last day of my 2 month re-validation and NOTHING from Avmed. When I called them they said they have a backlog and you’ll just have to wait. When I informed them that I wouldn’t be able to work, I got an apology and not much more. After …

Re: In praise of CASA

Avmed must be picking up their act, I just got my class 1 renewal back in the mail after only 2 weeks  ( I had the works treatment also). so i was very surprised when it turned up as last year it took nearly 2 months.

Re: In praise of CASA

First (of course), well done to regain your Class 1) But Avmed can be likened to the curate’s egg: good in parts. I have recently received my medical certificate after a 4 month delay, during which time Avmed lost the documentation (e mailed to an …

In praise of CASA

… of a Class One. Mine was a slightly awkward case, didn’t fit a template, so while I’ve never really doubted the outcome, it’s required patience, Avmed flexibility, common sense and time. I have to say the organisation’s been brilliant. Last week I got a brand spankers Class 1 without conditions …

Re: Glaucoma

Be careful if Avmed gets hold of you. A mate of mine broke his arm in a fall playing touch footy. Presented to medical, xrays and simple fracture of the radius, 6 weeks out of action, no flying. That was 2010 and he still isn’t cleared. …
